Our social responsibility message for July focuses on summer boating safety, a joint campaign with Preventable.ca. BC Liquor Stores is reminding customers that drinking and boating are not a good mix. 

Boating and drinking don’t mix. In BC, more than 40% of boating-related fatalities are linked to alcohol. People on the water have a faster risk of becoming impaired as compared to someone on land. The waves, the sun, the wind and the glare all contribute to this. Not only is impaired boating unsafe, it’s also illegal. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, it is an offence to operate a boat while under the influence. 

So please remember to stay safe this summer. Have fun in the water and stay sober.
